How many types of vaccines

2 vaccines are available.

  1. Gardasil – a Quadrivalent vaccine covering HPV strains  6, 11, 16, 18
  2. Cervarix – a Bivalent vaccine covering HPV 16, 18

How much is the dose and route ?

     0.5ml for each dose given  Intramuscular 

Who should get vaccinated?

  • Ideally if given for girls at the age of 9 years or  before 1st sexual act gives maximum protection.
  • Not recommended for pregnant women.

Schedules for vaccination:

        CERVARIX-

        9-14 years’ age                  Dose-1(At 1st visit)

                                                      Dose-2(6months after 1st dose)

        15years and above age    Dose-1(At 1st visit)

                                                      Dose-2(1 month after 1st dose)

                                                      Dose-3(6months after 1st dose)

        GARDASIL-

        9-14years age                    Dose-1(At 1st visit)

                                                      Dose-2(6-12months after 1st dose)

       15-45years age                   Dose-1(At 1st visit)

                                                      Dose-2(2months after 1st dose)
                                                      Dose-3(6 months after 1st dose)

Benefit- If you had already one strain of HPV, you could still benefit from vaccine because it prevent & protect you from another  strain.
